Musical Crossroads: India and the West

Sunday, April 9, 2017 at 4:00 pm - 5:15 pm

free and open to the public

Renowned sitarist Gaurav Mazumdar, a student of the legendary Ravi Shankar, joins Crossing Borders Music to present his original compositions for sitar, violin, cello, and tabla. The music depicts a human life journeying through its different stages as understood in the Hindu worldview, from birth to the worldly affairs of adulthood to the renunciation of old age. The music merges traditional North Indian classical modes and rhythms with a Western style of counterpoint and innovative, modal harmonies.
The concert is free and open to the public.
