SUMMARY:Musical Crossroads: India and the West
DESCRIPTION:Renowned sitarist Gaurav Mazumdar\, a student of the legendary Ravi Shankar\, joins Crossing Borders Music to present his original compositions for sitar\, tabla\, and European strings. The compositions depict through music a human life journeying from birth to the worldly affairs of adulthood to the renunciation of old age. The music merges traditional North Indian classical modes and rhythms with a Western style of counterpoint and innovative\, modal harmonies. \nThis program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
