SUMMARY:Zombie: Origins and Evolution Project
DESCRIPTION:This event features scenes from the ZOE (Zombie: Origins and Evolution) Project documentary\, plus an art exhibition opening featuring artists Ben Salus and Jean-Yves Hector\, CD release and live music by Rudy Perrault and Sabrina Jean Louis performed by Crossing Borders Music\, and live dance by Haitian dancers! \nThe ZOE project is an international event in Chicago and Haiti in which artists\, musicians and dancers collectively work on a series of exhibitions and a feature documentary that examines the origins of the zombie and its evolution into a modern day pop culture icon. The ZOE project attempts to understand the symbolism\, facts and the cultural significance of zombies. The ZOE project is\, in part\, supported by a generous grant from The Chicago Community Trust. \nThis program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.

SUMMARY:From Street Tunes to Sufi Art Music: Celebrating Egyptian Composers
DESCRIPTION:Music by Egyptian composers of yesterday and today whose works capture the spirit and diversity of Arab music! This concert will include the performance of the brand new Peace Piece by Egyptian American composer Riad Abdel-Gawad\, as well as folk-inspired works by Gamal Abdel-Rahim and works by Abdo Dagher inspired by Sufi mysticism. It features Issam Rafea\, oud; Maya Shiraishi\, violin; Tom Clowes\, cello; and Omar al Musfi\, Middle Eastern percussion.\nThe concert is free and open to the public. \nThis program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
