About Rohingya Musicians
For generations, Rohingya musicians have been the keepers of their people’s stories, carrying the weight of history, identity, and resilience in their melodies. From joyous celebrations to solemn rituals, music was woven into the fabric of daily life in Arakan, Myanmar. But as persecution intensified, so too did efforts to silence them. Despite the hardships of exile and displacement, Rohingya musicians continue to play, their songs now echoing through the refugee camps of Bangladesh, bearing witness to both loss and hope. Recognizing the urgent need to preserve this endangered tradition, Crossing Borders Music has embarked on a journey to document and share the voices of these musicians. Through fieldwork in Bangladesh, CBM has gathered stories, songs, and insights into a musical heritage that refuses to be erased. The Rohingya Music Library stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of Rohingya artists, ensuring that their music—once suppressed—can now be heard by the world.
