Haiti: Music of Life, Loss, and Hope
Sunday, May 15, 2016 at 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Haiti: Music of Life, Loss, and Hope features Jean “Rudy” Perrault’s powerful “Exodus” String Quartet, which is dedicated to refugees around the world. It tells the gripping, difficult story of a Haitian refugee, ending with the hope that life will be better for the next generation. It also features Robert Durand’s lively string quartet that evokes the music of Dvorak, Smetana, Haitian folk music, and the Haitian méringue dance! Lastly, the concert will include the passionate resilience of Gifrants’ “Gason Vanyan,” and preview brand new works by Sabrina C. D. Jean-Louis, written for the Zombie: Origin and Evolution Project, funded in part by The Chicago Community Trust.
This concert is sponsored by the Société de Recherche et de Diffusion de la Musique Haïtienne.
