Haiti: Music of Life, Loss, and Hope

Sunday, April 3, 2016 at 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

free and open to the public

Haiti: Music of Life, Loss, and Hope features Jean “Rudy” Perrault’s powerful “Exodus” String Quartet, which is dedicated to refugees around the world. It tells the gripping, pained story of a Haitian refugee, ending with the hope that life will be better for the next generation. It also features Robert Durand’s lively string quartet that evokes the music of Dvorak, Smetana, Haitian folk music, and the Haitian méringue dance. To finish, the concert will feature “Gason Vanyan” by Gifrants, which celebrates individual and collective solidarity, and “Clair de Lune” by Sabrina C D Jean Louis.
This is the fourth concert in Crossing Borders Music’s residency at the Chicago Cultural Center.

This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
