Musical Crossroads: India and the West
Friday, May 27, 2016 at 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
free and open to the public
Renowned sitarist Gaurav Mazumdar, a student of the legendary Ravi Shankar, joins Crossing Borders Music to present his original compositions for sitar, tabla, and European strings. The compositions depict through music a human life journeying from birth to the worldly affairs of adulthood to the renunciation of old age. The music merges traditional North Indian classical modes and rhythms with a Western style of counterpoint and innovative, modal harmonies.
This event will take place in Preston Bradley Hall.
This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
