Julio Racine is a flutist, conductor, and composer. Born in 1945, he studied flute and music at the National Conservatory of Haiti and the University of Louisville School of Music. Racine returned to Haiti to teach flute at the Holy Trinity Music School of Port-au-Prince and conduct the Holy Trinity Philharmonic Orchestra, Haiti’s de facto national orchestra. Former students remember him fondly as a demanding, brilliant teacher and conductor.
In addition to composing original works like the string quartet below, Racine has recently been involved in the Chansons d’Haiti project, collecting and publishing Haitian folk songs.
